Indie-folk singer songwriter Con Murphy is bringing his live show to the Roisin Dubh, Galway this summer on July 26th along with his band. Fresh off the back of a support slot with Aslan and a sold out launch show in Iceland, Con has released his debut 4-track EP ‘The Fjord’ - a selection of folk songs that includes his catchy pop debut ‘Don’t Freak Out,’ and delves deeper to explore the delicate sounds of folk ballads with each song - from the lead track and melancholy folk ballad “Heavens Table” made up of ethereal piano, atmospheric guitar and poignant lyrics, followed by uplifting and romantic piano track “Patiently Wait” which explores a the concept of patience resulting in the best things in life.
The final track and namesake of the EP ‘The Fjord’ was written on a trip to Iceland, Inspired by the stories from the Icelandic eastern fjords about love and wonder, Con wove them together with gentle melodies whilst sitting listening to the sultry tones of Patsy Cline. The song gives you a sense of homely nostalgia as the lyrics paint a story of time passing in a relationship and the wonderment of emigration.
The EP is a warm and heartfelt offering from a skilled storyteller with a guitar and proves Con Murphy is a songwriter worth listening to. The EP has grabbed some significant attention since its release in late March receiving airplay on national radio both at home and abroad, and has earned Con feature slots at various festivals this summer both in Ireland and in the UK.
Having spent the past number of years developing his live show which has included appearances on the same bill as The Frank & Walters, Paddy Casey, Duke Special, Mundy, U.M.A.N, David Keenan and Damien Dempsey, this is an opportunity to get a glimpse of Con’s upcoming album due for release in 2019.
