Róisín Dubh Comedy presents
Irish Kings of Comedy
KEVIN MCALEER, BARRY MURPHY, JOE ROONEY
3 Irish comedy stars for the price of one.
Featuring the stars of Apres Match, Killinascully, Father Ted & Nighthawks.
Kevin McAleer is one of the founding fathers of modern standup, but he is still writing and performing his unique brand of nonsense like a spring chicken on acid. He has influenced and inspired a whole generation of comedians in Ireland and the UK, from Stewart Lee to David O’Doherty. McAleer cut his comedy teeth on the UK circult back in the mists of the 1980s; in May 2011 a one-off revival of his cult classic slide show took the roof off the Royal Festival Hall, prompting Chortle UK to remark ‘most of his set was spent waiting for people to finish laughing.’ His most recent one-man show, ‘Chalk & Cheese’ was universally hailed as his most original and hilarious ever, a tour de force of concentrated laughter, with the trademark timing and delivery just getting sharper with age.
‘Probably the best piece of standup I have ever seen,’ Stewart Lee.
‘Unique skills of language, timing and delivery.’ Performance Magazine
Barry Murphy is “one of the high kings of Irish comedy” (Hot Press) and is simply not to be missed. His sheer originality and overwhelming talent guarantee that there is no other performer like him. The IFTA nominated writer’s CV is one to envy – Host of the End, Stand and Deliver, one third of Apres Match and Mr Trellis, co-founder of the Comedy Cellar Club and co-creator of Soupy Norman.
“The Comedy Don” The Irish Times.
Joe Rooney has recently appeared in the hit RTE comedy series,"Killinaskully" as the character "Timmy Higgins" and also featured in the stand up show "The Liffey Laugh" on RTE 2. Joe is probably best known for his role as Father Damo in the "Father Ted" series.
