About the Roisin
Róisín Dubh opened its doors in 1993, and has been universally regarded as the West of Ireland’s finest music venue ever since. In its original incarnation, under John Mannion & Mark Reilly, the Róisín played host to almost every musician worth their salt, Christy Moore, The Frames, Damien Dempsey, Luka Bloom, Andy Irvine, to people like Warren Zevon, Townes Van Zandt, Eric Bibb, John Martyn, Doves, Snow Patrol, Ray Manzarek, John Paul Jones to name but a few.
In 2004, the Róisín changed hands. The new owners, Kevin Healy, Simon Heaslip, Greg Healy & Gugai, were firmly committed to building on, and improving, the Róisín’s already established reputation as the venue of choice for national and international acts. In 2006, there were extensive renovations to the building – the venue size was increased, a new bar was added upstairs and the incredibly popular beer garden was added on the roof. Ever since, the Róisín has firmly cemented its reputation as a purveyor of the very best music and comedy, eschewing the normal cover bands and tribute acts found in other venues, and focusing on not only bringing in established talent, but providing a stage for emerging artists as well. Róisín Dubh also has a keen eye for talent, and many people have been fortunate to see acts in its intimate confines that have gone on to sell out shows in the O2 including Two Door Cinema Club, The xx, Ed Sheeran, Imelda May & Kevin Bridges. There is no other venue in the West with the same passion for music and comedy, with the same commitment to providing new and interesting acts, and keeping Galway entertained.
Nine years after the change in ownership, Róisín Dubh 2.0, voted best venue in Connacht five years in a row by bands and songwriters in the IMRO awards, is still essentially the same as it ever was. Great atmosphere, wonderful staff and the very best place to see music and comedy, old and new.
Some highlights from the past nine years….
Two Door Cinema Club, Franz Ferdinand, Biffy Clyro, Ed Sheeran, Ray Davies, Caribou, Violent Femmes, Villagers, Frightened Rabbit, The Cast Of Cheers, And So I Watch You From Afar, Kormac’s Big Band, The xx, Jello Biafra, James Vincent McMorrow, The Coronas, Darwin Deez, Port O’Brien, Mount Kimbie, Mark Lanegan, Wild Beasts, Steve Mason, Seasick Steve, Modest Mouse, Fuck Buttons, Jape, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Pete Doherty, DJ Yoda, Le Galaxie, Frank Turner, New York Dolls, Candi Staton, Booker T, Beth Orton, DJ Shadow, Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip, Maverick Sabre, Billy Bragg, Warpaint, Delorentos, Gold Panda, Black Lips, John Grant, Daithi, Elaine Mai, The Dirty Projectors, Yacht, Ellie Goulding, De La Soul, Lisa Hannigan, Josh Ritter, The Wedding Present, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Thurston Moore, The Low Anthem, The Fall, Beardyman, Mr Scruff, Grandmaster Flash, Steve Mason, We Are Scientists, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Ryan Adams, Passenger, José Gonzaléz, I'm From Barcelona, Mercury Rev, Battles, Dinosaur Jr, The Lemonheads, Toots & The Maytals, Stars, Imelda May, The Magic Numbers and many more
Comedy at Róisín Dubh
Róisín Dubh has long been the home of comedy in Galway. Many great acts including Stewart Lee, Phill Jupitus & Rich Hall, list it as being one of their top 10 venues in the world. Regular comedy goers will have been lucky enough over the years to see the likes of Jack Whitehall, Kevin Bridges or Sarah Millican when they were starting out, not forgetting the now legendary shows from Doug Stanhope & Jim Jefferies. Roisin Dubh also brings some of the biggest names in comedy to Galway including shows from Michael McIntyre, Lee Evans and Alan Carr. They curate the Galway Comedy Festival every year with such greats as Tommy Tiernan, Tim Minchin & Dylan Moran.
Des Bishop recorded his Desfunctional DVD there in 2009 and later in 2010 Roisin Dubh comedy produced and hosted Stand And Deliver for RTE television.
In the next few weeks alone you can see Reginald D Hunter, Jason Byrne, Ardal O'Hanlon, Daniel Kitson, Andrew Maxwell, Neil Delamere, Whose Line with Greg Proops, Janeane Garofalo & as part of our birthday celebrations, arguably one of the most intriguingly twisted comedians of our generation, Terry Alderton.
Strange Brew
For over 10 years, Strange Brew has been running on Thursday nights, moving to Róisín Dubh from its original home in the beloved Warwick in 2006. One of Ireland’s longest running club nights, it has been instrumental in providing a stage to the more alternative spectrum of artists that would not have a platform to play otherwise in a town where most venues prefer to take an easier, blander approach to live music. Many of the most successful alternative acts in Ireland today, such as Two Door Cinema Club, Villagers, Le Galaxie, Delorentos, The Cast Of Cheers, Jape & And So I Watch You From Afar, all started out playing free shows at Strange Brew in Roisin Dubh on Thursday nights, as did the likes of Frightened Rabbit, Foals and more. It’s widely regarded as one of the go-to club nights in Ireland for people interested in finding new, interesting and exciting music.
Silent Disco
Silent Disco is now a big part of late nights at Róisín Dubh – during the college year; there is generally a queue out the door on a Tuesday night. During term time, it’s on every Tuesday and Wednesday (the Wednesday takes a break for the summer), and there is also one once a month on a Saturday. There is no judgement at Silent Disco. Come along to hear music you love, music you love to hate and all your guilty pleasures. It’s good wholesome fun.
And you really won’t want to miss the now legendary Silent Disco Street Parties – the next one is on August 4th.
Late Nights
Róisín Dubh is one of the most popular late night bars in town – for good reason. Wednesday nights for the summer features live music from the likes of The Converse Allstars, The Rye, Mikey & The Scallywags and more.
Strange Brew on Thursdays for indie beats, alternative rock and good vibrations from past, the present and the not too distant future with gugai.
Friday nights features rotating residencies from Mashole (bootlegs, mashups and bastard pop with Phil Retrospector), 110th STREET PRESENTS THE HIVE (disco, house, hip-hop, Italo, techno, electro-pop, post-punk, new wave or lost classics), SHUFFLE (Soul & Funk with Dave Barry), DJ KORMAC (Scratch, hip hop, av extravaganza) and THE DISCONAUTS (Deep space disco: Lunar house intergalactic funk: Klingon classics).
Saturday nights is the powerful combination of indie, hip hop, funk and rock from the one and only GRAHAM DOLAN, with space disco and dance with MICK DATA upstairs.
HIP HOP CLASSICS and more on Sunday nights with the indefatigable Graham Dolan, DJ FUZ plays a selection of indie, post punk, new wave and more on Mondays. ?
Tuesdays, it’s the legendary SILENT DISCO with gugai & Ted.
OPEN MIC ON SUNDAYS
Primarily located in the upstairs bar at Roisin Dubh, (there is a big fancy one downstairs once a month) the OPEN MIC gives performers the unique opportunity perform in an intimate room with an adoring audience.
Whether you are a comedian, dancer, opera-singer, magician, singer-songwriter, Bruce Willis look-a-like or anything else for that matter....come in and hone your talents at Open Night at Roisin Dubh.

A monitor board (Allen & Heath GL3300 24 channel) is available but requires specific advance notice for collection from storage. It also requires setup time in addtion to norrmal showtimes. Stage space is at a premium and it is possible to do 6 mixes from the FOH desk.
For those carrying their own outboard, please note that inserts are on separate send and return jacks. Also Aux sends are on XLR. You can use the insert send to send on Jack, but this loses the use of the aux master.

Midlake stays ahead of its own time by making music that transcends it. The Denton, Texas band's 2006 release The Trails of Van Occupanther got fans and bloggers re-evalutating dormant ancestors like Fleetwood Mac, America, Crosby Stills Nash and Young and Bread - music that has been embedded in the indie worlds unconscious (Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes, Grizzly Bear) ever since. On their 2010 release The Courage of Others, Midlake reinvented themselves with influences from British folk to Russian Cinema - and received rave reviews culminating in the band being named Best Live Act by Mojo Magazine. + More
