Located in the West of Galway city, which anyone will tell you is the heart and soul of the town, the Roisin Dubh has been firmly established over the years as one of the finest music venues in the world. Opened by John Mannion and Mark Reilly, the Roisin Dubh rapidly became a household name in the world of music, with many travelling musicians going well out of their way to play in the venue. Over the years, under the watchful eyes of John and Mark, the Roisin played host almost every musician worth their salt, from home grown heroes like Christy Moore, The Frames, Damien Dempsey, Luka Bloom, Andy Irvine, to people like Warren Zevon, Townes Van Zandt, Eric Bibb, Doves, Snow Patrol, Ray Manzarek, John Paul Jones…..the list is endless.
In June 2004, Mark and John decided to move on to pastures fairer, and the Roisin Dubh was taken over. The new partnership consists of Kevin Healy and Simon Heaslip, former owners of the GPO, and owners of neighbouring bars, The Blue Note and Massimo; former GPO manager Greg Healy; and music promoter/DJ, Gugai. Since June, the Roisin has once again become the finest music venue in the West of Ireland. A brand new world class PA was installed, but other than that the Roisin remains the same; the same atmosphere, the same dedicated and courteous bar staff, and the same commitment to bringing the world’s finest music to the West.
Live music tastes better, after all.
